In collaboration with Erie County’s Adopt-A-Hydrant program, the Erie Water Works encourages the public to help keep fire hydrants clear of snow whenever possible, so they are readily accessible for emergency use. When seconds count, snow surrounding a fire hydrant impacts whether or not firefighters can quickly get the upper hand on a blaze. Please make sure to remove snow within 3 feet of the fire hydrant and ensure there is a clear path to the street for easy access.
Erie County’s GIS department has created an interactive tool to help track which fire hydrants are clear and which ones still need to be dug out. You can find a link directly to the site by visiting the Erie Water Works webpage at www.eriewater.org. Please do your part to help keep your community safe!
