Rolling Closures, Short-Term Lane Restrictions Scheduled for Bridge Removal over Interstate 90
Additional work to remove the bridge that carries Route 699 (Route 99/Edinboro Road) over Interstate 90 in Summit Township, Erie County will require rolling closures and lane restrictions on the highway starting this week.
A lane restriction will be in place for I-90 eastbound between the Interstate 79 interchange and Route 19 (Peach Street) from 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 7 through 12:00 PM on Friday, June 9.
A lane restriction will be in place for I-90 westbound between the I-79 interchange and Route 19 from 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 14 through 12:00 PM on Friday, June 16.

Rolling Closures, Short-Term Lane Restrictions This Week for Bridge Removal over Interstate 90
Additional work to remove the bridge that carries Route 699 (Edinboro Road) over Interstate 90 in Summit Township, Erie County will require rolling closures and lane restrictions on the highway starting this week.
There will be periodic rolling stops on I-90 eastbound and the Interstate 79 ramps to I-90 eastbound between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on April 25 and 26, 2023. In connection with the work, there is a lane closure near the bridge.
Motorists should expect delays.
A detour for Route 699 traffic is posted using Hershey Road (Route 4010) and Grubb Road.

There will be periodic rolling stops on I-90 westbound and the Interstate 79 ramps to I-90 westbound between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on April 19 and 20, 2023. In connection with the work, there is a lane closure near the bridge.
Motorists should expect delays.
Rolling stops and a lane closure for eastbound traffic are tentatively expected to happen between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on April 25 and 26, 2023.

Work to remove the bridge that carries Route 699 (Edinboro Road) over Interstate 90 in Summit Township, Erie County will require rolling closures and lane restrictions on the highway starting Monday.
There will be periodic nighttime rolling stops on I-90 eastbound and the Interstate 79 ramps to I-90 eastbound starting 9:00 PM, Monday, April 3, 2023 and ending, 6:00 AM Thursday, April 7, 2023. In connection with the work, there will be a lane closure near the bridge. There will also be nighttime lane closures on I-90 westbound that will be removed by 6:00 AM each day. Motorists should expect delays.
Rolling stops and a lane closure for westbound traffic are tentatively expected to happen between Monday, April 24, 2023 and Wednesday, April 27, 2023.
A detour for Route 699 traffic will start, April 3, 2023, and will be in place for approximately six months. A 7.6-mile detour will be posted using Hershey Road (Route 4010) and Grubb Road.

Nighttime Work, Rolling Stops Scheduled in April
A project to replace the bridge that carries Route 699 (Edinboro Road) over Interstate 90 in Summit Township, Erie County is expected to start early next month.
The bridge is located near the Interstate 79 interchange and approximately three miles north of the intersection with Grub Road (Route 4011).
The project includes the removal of an existing bridge and replacing it with a new 192-foot structure. Work will also include new roadway approaches, paving, updated drainage and guiderail improvements, as well as high tension cable barrier, and new signs and pavement markings.
Work will require a detour for approximately six months starting April 3, 2023. A 7.6-mile detour will be posted using Hershey Road (Route 4010) and Grubb Road.
There will be rolling stops on I-90 and the I-79 ramps to I-90 Monday through Thursday from April 3 to 28 while the beams from the existing bridge are removed. The rolling stops will predominately happen during nighttime work, but some daytime rolling stops might be needed as well.
Additional rolling stops will be needed for work later in the project. There will also be lane restrictions on I-90 near the bridge throughout the construction.
The existing bridge was built in 1959 and rehabilitated in 1987. It is classified as poor condition. Approximately 5,200 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.
The contractor is MEKIS Construction Corporation of Fenelton, PA. The contract cost is $4,871,478, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.
Original Post 3/22/2023: ICYMI: The Edinboro Road/Route 99 bridge over I-90 will be closed due to work beginning April 3, 2023. According to the PennDOT project report, the estimated completion date is November 3, 2023. We will share information concerning this project as soon as we receive it.
